Are you a follower of the hemp industry? If so, you’ve likely noticed by now that delta 9 products are beginning to pop up on the market. If you thought that your eyes were deceiving you, we don’t blame you – delta 9 THC has been, without a doubt, the most controversial hemp derivative in history, and its complex legal status is something that we’re all very familiar with.
At Greenlife Remedies, we offer a variety of delta 9 products for our customers to enjoy. As you know, here at Greenlife, we take federal compliance extremely seriously. So, what is delta 9 THC and how are we able to sell it legally, then?
Delta 9 THC is a naturally occurring cannabinoid found in the hemp plant as well as the marijuana plant. While it can exist in up to 20% of marijuana’s chemical composition, the hemp plant contains only 0.3% of the cannabinoid, which is considered a very trace amount. If you were to smoke raw hemp flower, you would never get high, because the amount of delta 9 that naturally exists in the plant never crosses the psychoactive threshold.
Of course, delta 9 THC is best known for being quite psychoactive, meaning that it produces a high. As a reference for those who have taken delta 8 THC before, delta 9 is about 30% more intoxicating. The high is often described as both euphoric and mellowing to both mood and body, and especially when consumed in relatively high doses, it can cause something of a foggy state of mind.
Delta 9 may be most commonly associated with its intoxicating effects, but as we all know by now, that’s not all that it can do. Because delta 9 is a cannabinoid, it’s a compound that is used by the body’s endocannabinoid system, which is a complex bodily system that plays a role in maintaining equilibrium. Cannabinoids like delta 9 attach to cannabinoid receptors found in various systems of the body with the goal of regulating important functions that affect how we feel each day.
Delta 9 has been studied for these unique effects over the last several decades. In fact, these studies below have led us to believe that delta 9 has the potential to:
Up until just a couple of years ago, cannabis (the genus to which marijuana and hemp both belong) was strictly illegal throughout the country. But then, in 2018, everything changed when the United States passed the Farm Bill, which would change the hemp industry as we know it.
The Farm Bill finally removed hemp from the list of classified substances, legalizing both its cultivation and sales throughout America. It determined that all hemp products and hemp derivatives can be sold legally in any concentration or product form. But, there’s one stipulation: no hemp product may contain more than 0.3% delta 9 THC by dry weight.
Note: Although individual states can override federal law on this matter, the law pertaining to delta 9 THC is the same in all 50 states.
Like we mentioned, hemp products that contain more than 0.3% delta-9 are considered illegal in the country. Products that contain within this limit can therefore be sold and purchased in all 50 states. And, the delta 9 products at Greenlife Remedies all contain a maximum of 0.3% delta 9 THC by dry weight. This means that they are 100% federally compliant.
But, we touched upon earlier that 0.3% delta 9 THC is such a trace amount that it does not cross the psychoactive threshold. Well, this is true when it comes to the natural chemical composition of hemp. By increasing the serving size of a hemp product, that 0.3% delta-9 can actually cross the psychoactive threshold.
Greenlife Remedies delta 9 products come in fairly large portion sizes compared to the same types of products that contain, say, delta 8 or delta 10. This is so that the 0.3% delta 9 THC in them offers noticeable effects. After all, a product that weighs a gram can legally contain 3mg of delta 9. Now, let’s say that you have a chocolate bar that is 4 grams total. The law says that only 0.3% of that chocolate bar can contain delta 9 THC. Well, 0.3% of 4 grams is 12 milligrams, which we know from our knowledge of other cannabinoids is actually a good, effective amount of delta-9 that can easily be felt by the user.
Because of this law, technically there is no limit to how many milligrams of delta 9 THC a product may contain. For stronger delta 9 effects, the serving size is just increased so that the delta-9 concentration that’s consumed is more potent.
So, you can understand why then, you’re far more likely to find delta 9 edibles than other types of delta 9 THC products on the market. Edibles are, without a doubt, easy to enjoy in larger serving sizes. It’s more pleasant to consume an entire chocolate bar or a handful of gummies than to, say, administer several milliliters of a delta-9 tincture below your tongue.
One thing that you must keep in mind is that just because the hemp-derived delta 9 products offered at Greenlife Remedies are legal, they can and almost certainly will result in a failed drug test, and so if you are someone who is tested for work, probation or any other reason, you should avoid these delta 9 products. Note that delta 8 and delta 10 are also associated with a positive drug test result.
Standard urine tests are not looking for delta 9 THC itself. Instead, they are looking for an enzyme in the body known as THC-COOH. This enzyme is released when tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is consumed, whether it be delta 9, delta 8, delta 10, or any other THC-based cannabinoid. Consuming legal delta-9 products will cause THC-COOH to be present in the urine.
Another thing to keep in mind is that even though these delta 9 products are fully legal, they are still intoxicating products that can cause impairment. Driving while under the influence of delta 9, even if the delta 9 THC is legal, can be viewed as a criminal offense, and besides that, it can be dangerous. Operating heavy machinery should also be avoided. Being impaired at work because you consumed delta-9, regardless of its legal status, can have repercussions as well.
All that being said, using legal delta 9 THC should be done responsibly, just as if you were consuming any legal intoxicating substance.
When it comes to starting a new routine with any cannabinoid, the goal is to go ‘low and slow’. In other words, start with a low dosage and only increase it gradually as your tolerance to its effects build. Most people would consider 5mg to be a good starting dose for delta 9, and at Greenlife Remedies, you can find delta-9 products that offer 5 milligrams of delta 9 per serving.
Key Takeaway: Delta 9 THC is more intoxicating than delta 8 THC. Because of this, it’s best to take delta 9 when you have several hours without any real responsibilities. Edibles are known for lasting the longest out of any delivery method – somewhere around 8 hours. So, simply plan to be intoxicated for this length of time.
If you live in a state in which marijuana is already legal, then you have no restrictions when it comes to delta 9. In other words, a product you purchase that contains delta 9 may have higher than a 0.3% concentration of the cannabinoid while still being legal. Essentially, you do not have to adhere to what federal law has to say about the content of delta-9 in a cannabis product.
At Greenlife Remedies, our goal is always to deliver the finest, cleanest hemp possible while completely adhering to federal law. The delta 9 products that we carry has been meticulously developed to remain fully in line with the Farm Bill, while offering our customers an opportunity to experience the unique and highly useful properties of delta 9 THC. We encourage you to check out all our delta-9 products that we’ve recently added to our inventory and incorporate them into your routine gradually- starting out with low dosage amounts as you develop a tolerance to this cannabinoid’s effects.
